Controllers
Our wind turbine controller is based on a PLC system and is designed to perform a number of functions:
- Convert wild AC from turbine to DC for inputting to the grid tie inverter
- Monitor the voltage on the system and shut down the turbine if the voltage becomes too high
- After excessive wind speed, the controller can check the wind speed by running the turbine with a high resistive load. This can determine if it is safe to re-start the turbine
- Monitor the 3 phases coming in from the turbine to ensure that there has been no cable fault
- Shut the turbine down in the event of a grid failure, or an inverter fault
- After a long period with no wind, the inverter will normally have shut down. Should the wind return, the turbine may over-speed before the inverter has warmed up and is ready to connect. The controller can be configured to keep the turbine speed down during this warm up period.
